[sticky entry] Sticky: Intro Post + Rules

classicfilmex: (Default)
Classic Film Exchange is what it says on the tin: an exchange for fandoms in movies released before 1/1/1980. This date doesn't mean that no "classic" films were released after January 1, 1980, merely that it serves as a useful cut-off to allow less frequently requested and written fandoms to get the attention they deserve!

The challenge is fic only, and is open to films from any nation in any language, but the fic must be in English.

When considering the release date of a movie that came out close to the end of the eligibility window, please use the release in the country of origin; if a film was released in a different country before 1/1/1980, please let the mods know at classicfilmexchange@gmail.com so we can verify it.

Jul. 30th, 2024 02:06 am

If you are a pinch-hitter who isn't signed up for the exchange, please leave your AO3 name and any requests/prompts you've got here, so treaters know what you might like!
classicfilmex: (Default)
Creators have been revealed, which brings the challenge to an official end for this year. If you've not yet commented on your gift, please do so ASAP!

Again, heartfelt gratitude to everyone who took part in this inaugural edition of the exchange and made it work, with extra thanks to our pinch hitters. We hope to see you this time next year for another round of CFX!
classicfilmex: (Default)
The collection is open!

Thanks to everyone who participated, with extra gratitude to our pinch hitters. Please make sure to thank your creators for their work or, if there are issues with your gift (you fulfilled your assignment but you have not received a gift, your gift does not include any ship or character that you requested, or your gift contains a DNW that you stated in your signup on AO3), let us know ASAP at classicfilmexchange@gmail.com.

Reveals will come a week from today.

We are all set to open as scheduled, at 10pm CEST on September 22 [countdown]! Many thanks to all of the pinch hitters.

Now is a great time to do a final proofread of your work and to check, one more time, to make sure you've not included any DNWs.

In addition, there's still time for treats! As a reminder, treats don't need to meet the minimum word count, but they do need to include a fandom and relationship/character requested by the person to whom you/re giving the gift. (To add a gift, go to the AO3 page, click "post to collection," then make sure you type your recipient's name correctly in the appropriate blank.)
classicfilmex: (Default)
Thanks to the pinch hitters who are hard at work, we are currently on schedule for the collection to open as planned!

(If this changes, we'll post another update.)
classicfilmex: (Default)
The deadline for submission of gifts has passed! If you do not have a gift and are not a pinch hit, never fear -- several people have extensions.

We have two returning pinch hits and two new ones; the new deadline is September 19.

Feel free to share these with any fic writers you know who dig old movies!

You know the drill: To claim, please either email the mods (classicfilmexchange@gmail.com) with your AO3 username or comment below. Comments are screened.

classicfilmex: (Default)
Stories are due on Sunday in most timezones — check yours here! [countdown]

If RL is getting in the way of writing and an extension would help, please contact the mods at classicfilmexchange@gmail.com with your username and that of your recipient, and we're happy to provide up to 72 hours of wiggle room.

To everyone finishing up, good luck! And, to those who are done and just itching to dive back into the cool waters of classic film ficcing, don't forget we've still got a couple of outstanding pinch hits that could use some love:

To claim, please either email the mods with your AO3 username or comment below. Comments are screened.

Sign-ups are open and will remain so until 10pm CEST on 7/27. [sign-up form | countdown | in your time zone]

A reminder of the rules (which you'll also find on the sign-up form itself):

You can request 3-10 fandoms with 1-10 ships and/or characters. While you can repeat fandoms, you must have 3 unique ones selected to participate.

You can offer 3-10 fandoms with 1-10 ships and/or characters. You must offer 3 unique fandoms to participate. Matches are made based on one fandom and one character or ship.

You can edit/delete your sign-ups until the sign-up period closes.

If a sign-up does not include the required number of fandoms, it will be deleted when sign-ups close.

All fandoms and ships requested and offered in this exchange must be chosen from those nominated into the tagset. There is a known bug where not all tags in the tagset will display in the signup form. If you run into this problem, copying and pasting the tag from the tagset should do the trick. If it doesn't let us know, either in a comment here or by email [classicfilmexchange@gmail.com] and we'll look into it, too.

If no offers match your requests, you will go out for claiming as an initial pinch hit (IPH).

If there aren't any requests that match your offers, the mods will contact you at the email address associated with your AO3 account to see if there is anything else you can offer. If you do not reply within 24 hours, or there is nothing else you can offer, your sign-up will be deleted.

Dear Creator letters: There will be a section in the sign-up where letters can be linked to give your gifter further details on your likes, dislikes and other request details. Dear Creator letters are optional.

In the optional details and in Dear Creator letters, please do not place preference for one ship over the others, as there isn't a guarantee you will be matched on that ship.

DNWs: Please include anything you don't want to receive in the Optional Details field in your AO3 sign-up and label this clearly as "Do Not Wants" (DNW). If a DNW is included in your gift, only reasonable DNWs in your sign-up will be enforced. Please remember that DNWs cannot be used to box your creator into producing a very specific work.

We will not be enforcing DNWs in letters.

If your sign-up breaks any of the above rules or is found to be in bad faith, the mods will contact you. Please respond; otherwise, you risk your sign-up being deleted.

Please let us know if you have questions, or run into issues with the form (beyond the know issue mentioned above, though we're happy to try to help with that as well!!).

classicfilmex: (Default)
The next steps are for us to go through everything that is still unapproved, and then do any necessary cleanup. Once those things are done, we'll open sign-ups — that will happen on or before July 17.

In the meantime, thanks to everyone who has been involved so far, our expectations for the challenge have already been exceeded and then some!
classicfilmex: (Default)
Only one question this time around — as before, not responding within 48 hours risks deletion of affected nominations.
  • The character "Rita Desjardin" doesn't appear in any casts lists we can find for Carrie (1976), nor are they mentioned in the detailed summary found on AFI.com. Nominator, could you please offer some guidance?

Nominations are open for about eight more hours, until 10pm CEST today! [tagset | countdown | in your time zone]

Just over 48 hours left for nominations, which are open until 10pm CEST on July 15. [tagsetcountdown | in your time zone]

Any questions, please drop them in the comments, or shoot us an email at: classicfilmexchange@gmail.com

  • If you had a pairing rejected that seemed valid, it was likely a novice moderator dealing badly with non-identical nominations of the same pairings. The problem has been solved so it shouldn't happen to anyone else, but if you lost a slot because of the rejection and need it back, let us know and we'll manually add the nomination you can't make.
  • Chabouillet doesn't appear in the cast list for the 1976 Les Mis movie -- nominator, could you please offer some guidance on the character, and their presence in the film?
  • If you have requested any pairing with OMC/OFC in it, please edit it. Such pairings aren't mentioned in the rules and thus aren't eligible; they will be rejected if they are not changed. As an alternative, feel free to request someone using the SOLO label and, in your letter/prompt, suggest a romantic or sexual relationship for your writer to take up, should they so choose.

If the above questions aren't addressed within 48 hours, the nominations in question risk being deleted.

Also, please feel free to use these comments to ask any lingering questions you've got!

Looking for a place to shout about the movies you love, as well as the characters/ships within them that make you happiest (or fill you with delicious angst)? Well, this is that place!

If you want a suggestion for format, there's one below, but feel free to express yourself any way you'd like!

Title:

How can people watch it?

What and/or who do you love about it?

Any content warnings?

Some things to keep in mind:
  • If you post gifs and videos, remember not everyone has high speed internet, and consider linking rather than embedding, if you include more than one or two.
  • Please warn for big triggers and label NSFW content in gifs or videos!
  • When linking to sources for your movies, please leak only to legal sites, YouTube and/or archive.org.
  • If you are trying to find one of the movies mentioned either here on in the tagset and can't find it, please email the mods at classicfilmexchange@gmail.com and we're happy to help with grayer market resources!
